Inspired by Jean-François Parot books, Nicolas Le Floch is the new successful historical series in French TV.
The main character, Nicolas, is a young police chief in the Paris of Louis XV (1715-1774). These are troubled times for France… With the end of the Seven Years War, the growing conflicts over the colonies and the games of alliances with Prussia and England, the French people strongly ressents the influence of Mme de Pompadour, mistress of the king, who plays an influent political role in the country affairs.
Surrounded by political intrigues, treachery and murder, this young man cleverly solves mysteries and never gives up, even when everything seems to be against him.
The dialogues are a pure pleasure and you follow the conversations avidly. The settings and wardrobe were carefully chosen and you can easily imagine yourself in Paris 200 years ago. Certainly a must see for any mystery and historical series fan.
Nicolas LeFloch is played by Jerome Robert and the series directed by Edwin Baily. Four episodes were aired last week and we are hoping more will follow.
For those who might be interested, The Chatelet Apprentice and The Man of the Lead Stomach (the two first books in the series) were already translated in english and you can find them in Amazon.co.uk. Also the DVD with the first episodes was already released in the beginning of the month.

So glad I found this blog.
Thanks for this review ;0)
I read this week end ” L’enigme des Blancs- Manteaux”and loved it.
The writer give the reader all the element to make himself his own conclusion and you can find yourself ,if careful ,way ahead of the hero, you never get mislead or surprise or ennoyed by some last minute clue coming from nowhere. The book is very well written and Jean -Francois Parot did a wonderful work pulling you into this France under the gouvern of Louis XV.
Looking on the net I learn about this TV adaptation, and can’t wait to see it.
